ZoneAlarm has released a new infographic that very nicely shows the online threats that surround us all.

Online Threates InfographicThe infographic begins with the startling statistic that “almost 50% of PC users have experienced some computer security issues in the last two years”, before going on to mention some of the types of threat that are out there and how they work.

  • Malware is short for malicious software. This is software that is installed without your consent.
  • Cybercriminals are the people who commit illegal activity on the Internet.
  • A Trojan Horse is a computer program that pretends to be harmless whilst opening up backdoor access to your computer.
  • A Botnet is large network of compromised computers that is used by cybercriminals to conduct illegal activities.
  • Viruses are computer programs that are designed to cause corruption to your computer’s data and even damage your hard drive.
  • A Worm is a self-replicating, malicious computer program that sends copies of itself to other computers on the same network.
