100 Windows 8 Apps for Education

Find the right apps for your classroom

Apps are now an integral part of our everyday lives. We use them to check the weather and check into a flight, to see when the next bus is coming, record notes, read books, play games and much more. But one of the great outcomes of the app revolution that we’re incredibly excited about is the transformative learning that apps can help foster.

Microsoft recently posted a number of reviews for Windows 8 apps that have a positive role to play in education, and the good news is that there are loads more still waiting to be discovered! There are literally thousands of education apps in the Windows Store from early learning “games” to study aids and even apps that will help you manage the classroom – with more being published every day.

However, it’s unrealistic to think that teachers have the time be going through everything available in the Windows store and testing all of the apps on offer for suitability and usefulness. So Microsoft curated a list of 100 education apps that we hope you’ll find helpful, and put all this information into a deck that can be viewed on the Microsoft Education UK SlideShare page:

In order to make things as easy as possible and to save educators time, there apps have been broken down into the following broad categories:

  • Art, Design, Photography
  • Classroom Tools
  • Early Learning
  • eReader and Textbooks
  • Language Arts
  • Maths
  • Music
  • Reference
  • Science
  • Test Prep

Once you’ve found an app within the subcategories, you can then find it on the alphabetical list where there will be an accompanying description, as well as an easy to view matrix that indicates what age(s) and/or Key Stage(s) the app is suitable for.
